VCR tapes, are the same thing as VHS tapes. VHS is the proper name but people commonly use VCR tapes because VHS tapes playback on a VCR. VCR stands for videocassette recorder, a device designed for recording and playing VHS tapes. VHS stands for Video Home System. It is a recording standard developed by JVC back in the ’70s. VCR cassette’s are 7 3/8″ wide X 4″ high X 1″ deep (see VCR tape image) and use a 1/2″ magnetic tape as the recording medium.
